5 BEST WAYS TO GET AROUND LONDON WHEN YOU CAN’T BE BOTHERED TO WALK

London Underground

The London Underground, Overground and Docklands Light Railway provide the quickest and easiest ways to get around London.

Services generally run between 5am and midnight Monday to Saturday, with reduced operations on a Sunday.

Fares operate via 9 geographical zones. You can use your contactless card at the ticket barrier or alternatively purchase an Oyster card. Both will be cheaper than a pay as you go ticket with the daily cost capped once you travel a certain number of times.


London Bus The London red double decker bus is an icon of city and is a great way to travel around to get from place to place, or even for sightseeing.

All buses are cashless and you will need an Oyster card, travel card or contactless payment. Bus fares are a flat £1.55 regardless of distance with a day of bus only travel capped at £4.65.


Taxi Only black cabs can be hailed in the street. If the yellow ‘TAXI’ sign is lit up, the cab is available for hire. All are metered and have a minimum charge of £3.20. Alternatively there are a number of licensed minicabs (search or ask at accommodation for recommendations) or app based private hire vehicles such as uber, Gett, Bolt or FREE NOW.


Boat Available via 23 piers across London, Uber Boat by Thames Clipper is a great alternative way to see, and travel, around the city.

Catamarans depart every 20 to 30 minutes. Tickets can be purchased via contactless card, Oyster, or at the pier ticket office/machines with passes starting from £2.45.


Bikes/Scooters

Bikes or scooters are available for hire throughout London with the most popular being Santander Cycles. With 750 docking stations and 11,500 bikes its an easy way to get around the city. Prices start from £2 with the first 30 minutes of each journey free.
